About the role

We are seeking a compassionate, dynamic Group Facilitator for a permanent, part-time role (19 hours/week) at our Step-Up Step-Down residential service in Rockingham. You will deliver group sessions that promote self-exploration, resilience, and wellbeing, while creating a safe, welcoming, and non-stigmatising environment.

Through these activities, you will help people increase hope, purpose, and quality of life while supporting their recovery journey. Using co-design models, you will plan, deliver, and review programs in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and community partners.

 

About the service

The Step-Up Step-Down (Kwelena SUSD) service in Rockingham is a 10-bed, short-stay residential program supporting adults aged 18 to 64 with psychosocial disabilities. Delivered in partnership with Southern Metropolitan Health Service and Housing Choices, this recovery-focused service provides a safe, therapeutic environment offering a ‘step-up’ alternative to hospital admission or a ‘step-down’ pathway to help people transition from acute hospital care back into the community.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, co-design, facilitate groups and workshops to build life skills, develop social and community connections, and focus on recovery.
  • Cultivate a trusting, respectful and safe space where residents feel secure enough to share experiences.
  • Structure group agenda’s, manage the flow of conversation and discussions with deeper insights.
  • Provide consistency and predictability by maintaining clear rules, consistent response and defined boundaries for the group.
  • Provide information and mentoring to clients to establish relationships with families and carers, create community networks and access to relevant services.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client’s recovery goals.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health related field as designated by Mind.
  • Qualification (minimum Certificate IV) in Employment, Vocational Training or Pre-employment Education, or similar field is desirable.
  • Hold a current First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Proven experience in design, facilitation and delivery of groups and workshops, education and training, and learning activities.
  • Experience working with people with mental health challenges and complex needs, including engaging with families and carers.
  • Ability to manage emotional dynamics with the group, anticipate group needs and plan several steps ahead and develop strategy to help them progress.
  • Strong communication skills are necessary to engage members and foster a collaborative environment.
