About the role

We are seeking self-motivated, empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioners to join our Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service (YRRS) in Townsville. We have multiple opportunities available, including permanent part-time roles with various hours per week and casual positions. YRRS is a recovery-focused residential program that supports young people aged 16–21. Delivered in a safe, home-like setting, the service helps build life skills, resilience, social connections, and the confidence to live independently.

 

In this role, you will deliver intensive person-centred, recovery-oriented support to help young people work towards their wellbeing goals, develop independent living skills and daily routines, build confidence to live safely in the community, and strengthen social and community connections. This role requires flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including night shifts, weekdays, weekends, and sleepovers.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Support young people to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
  • Purposefully engage with young people using techniques including: Brief intervention, Motivational interviewing and coaching, Family inclusive practice, Trauma informed practice, Conflict resolution.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid young people to build their skills and focus on recovery.
  • Support family and carer roles through understanding their concerns and the provision of information, education and referrals.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to people’s recovery goals.
  • Contribute to the day to day operations of the residential service through undertaking a range of housekeeping duties.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Youth Work, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field.
  • Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Hold a current First Aid and CPR certificate and perform these duties as required as part of the role.
  • Ability to provide proof of vaccination against vaccine preventable diseases or willingness to obtain required vaccinations per Queensland Health partnership.
