About the role

headspace in partnership with Mind aims to promote and facilitate improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young people aged 12-25 years residing in the North-Eastern suburbs. Services in this space are delivered across four core streams - physical and sexual health, mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) service and work and study to improve access for young people to mental health programs.

We are seeking a self-motivated, compassionate Allied Health Clinician for a Permanent, Part time (15.2 hours per week) opportunity to work within a dynamic team in the Greensborough and Plenty Valley Location area. In this role you will deliver transdisciplinary clinical services and evidence-based, time-limited psychological therapies within a responsive stepped care framework tailored to meet the needs of young people facing mental health challenges. In this role you will provide high-quality, flexible therapeutic interventions, offer expert consultation, and deliver specialist services such as capacity building for young people with complex needs.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive and flexible therapeutic support service to young people, their families and carers, through counselling, short to moderate intensity interventions, brief intervention and treatment planning in accordance with professional, ethical and National Standards utilising significant clinical experience, in a range of areas.
  • Work closely with a person’s primary care provider and other key stakeholders/ agencies to coordinate care across multiple providers, including the structured psychological/counselling interventions delivered by headspace.
  • Provide counselling and assessment services to a wide range of clients including young people and their families and those referred for suicide prevention intervention.
  • Work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to promote and facilitate clients’ access to primary mental health care services, including supporting staff to recognise and respond to mental health conditions and provide effective clinical management.
  • Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and commitment to work collaboratively as a member of multidisciplinary team to provide integration and coordination between different sites or programs to facilitate the delivery of an efficient and responsive service to clients, families and carers.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Psychology, Mental Health Social Work, Social Work, Mental Health Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Master of Counselling.
  • Eligible for registration with the Australian Associate of Social Workers (AASW) and with Mental Health Accreditation preferred.
  • Eligible for registration with AHPRA or equivalent.
  • Able to provide EMDR is desirable.
  • At least two years’ clinical experience.
  • Proven experience in Community Services, Mental Health, Social Welfare, Housing, Healthcare or Disability sectors is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and clinical experience in flexible therapeutic support services including assessment, brief intervention, treatment planning and evaluation, education and research in accordance with professional, ethical and National Standards utilising clinical experience.
  • Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, AOD use, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • A lived experience of mental ill health and recovery or experience caring for a person with mental ill health is desirable.
