About the role
We are seeking an experienced, values-driven Centre Manager to lead the Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre. In this key leadership role, you will oversee all aspects of service delivery within a newly established mental health service, ensuring high-quality, recovery-oriented and trauma-informed support for people experiencing distress or crisis. You will provide leadership across service performance, workforce capability, clinical governance, stakeholder engagement and financial management.
Leading a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in embedding Mind’s Model of Recovery-Oriented Practice, fostering a culture that values lived and living experience, collaboration and continuous improvement.
You will also support service establishment, strengthen local partnerships, and help deliver integrated and accessible mental health services for the Cairns community.
About the service
The Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre, delivered in partnership with Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, provides a welcoming, low-stigma and safe space for people experiencing distress or crisis. Offering clinical and non-clinical support, the centre provides an alternative to hospital emergency departments and helps people access early intervention and ongoing supports, including AOD, housing, and social services.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team delivering recovery-oriented and trauma-informed services
- Oversee day-to-day operations including service delivery, rostering, recruitment, and risk management
- Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and professional development to build team capability and culture
- Ensure high-quality clinical governance, compliance, and service fidelity
- Manage budgets, KPIs, reporting, and service performance outcomes
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with clinical partners, community organisations, and government stakeholders
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field (required)
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field (highly desirable)
- Demonstrated leadership experience in complex, newly established, or multidisciplinary services
- Strong experience in mental health, AOD, community services or related sectors
- Proven ability to manage service performance, budgets, and operational delivery
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice, including lived/living experience workforce models
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and ability to lead teams in complex, fast-paced environments
