About the service
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services act as a front door to the mental health service system and provides a continuum of care and support including clinical interventions, wellbeing supports, and therapeutic support through an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug framework approach.
About the role
We are seeking a self-motivated, empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioner for a Fixed Term, Part Time opportunity (30.4 hours per week) in the Mt Alexander, Macedon Ranges and Central Goldfields area until November 2027. This position will play an integral part in working collaboratively with consumers to achieve their wellbeing and recovery goals through telehealth, one-to-one support, and group work facilitation to enhance recovery, personal growth and activities of daily living.
Key responsibilities
- Support people on their recovery journey – Work alongside individuals to help them take action on their recovery plans. This includes building skills for daily living, supporting self-care, and navigating mental health and/or AOD challenges.
- Design and deliver impactful group programs – Create and run group sessions that empower people to focus on their recovery, build confidence, and reconnect with their communities.
- Strengthen family and carer connections – Where appropriate, support individuals to re-engage with family and carers, and provide families with resources and guidance to access support for themselves.
- Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team – Be an active part of a team that values diverse perspectives. You’ll contribute to recovery-oriented practice, support clinical interventions, and participate in team, case, and handover meetings.
- Champion lived experience and inclusion – Help foster a workplace culture that values lived experience and actively includes consumers, carers, and families in shaping the work we do.
What you’ll bring
- Relevant qualifications valued – You’ll bring tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Community Services, or another related field recognised by Mind.
- Skilled in evidence-based approaches – You have practical experience applying a range of therapeutic models and service responses, such as trauma-informed care, family-inclusive practice, cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, and harm reduction strategies.
- Lived experience is welcomed – Personal experience of mental health challenges and recovery, or supporting someone through it, is highly regarded and seen as a valuable asset in this role.
- Collaborative and recovery-focused – You’re experienced in assessing individual needs and working alongside people to co-develop recovery plans using evidence-informed tools and approaches.
