About the role
We are looking for self-motivated and compassionate Community Mental Health Practitioners (Casual) to join our Youth Step Up Step Down (YSUSD) residential service in Caboolture. YSUSD is a short-term, recovery-focused program for young people aged 16–21, delivered in partnership with the local health service. The service provides a supportive, therapeutic environment as a ‘step up’ alternative to hospital admission or a ‘step down’ transition back into the community.
In this role, you’ll deliver person-centred, recovery-oriented support to young people, helping them:
- Achieve their recovery goals
- Build the skills and confidence to live safely in the community
- Develop daily routines and independent living skills
- Strengthen social and community connections
- Work across a 24/7 rotating roster, including nights, weekends, and sleepovers
Key responsibilities
- Support young people to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
- Purposefully engage with young people using techniques including: Brief intervention, Motivational interviewing and coaching, Family inclusive practice, Trauma informed practice, Conflict resolution.
- Plan and deliver group programs that aid young people to build their skills and focus on recovery.
- Support family and carer roles through understanding their concerns and the provision of information, education and referrals.
- Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to people’s recovery goals.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Youth Work, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, or other health-related field.
- Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
- Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
- Hold a current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to provide proof of vaccination against vaccine preventable diseases or willingness to obtain required vaccinations per Queensland Health partnership.
