About the role
We’re looking for compassionate, motivated Community Mental Health Practitioners to join our casual pool at the Adult Step-Up Step-Down residential service in Mackay. In this role, you’ll provide person-centred, recovery-focused support, helping people:
- build daily living skills
- strengthen social and family connections
- engage with local services and community supports
- develop confidence and independence for the future
Flexibility is essential, as you’ll work across a 24/7 roster, including nights, weekends and sleepovers.
About the service
The Adult Step Up Step Down (ASUSD) is a short-term (up to 28 days) 24/7 residential service delivered in partnership with Queensland hospital networks and the local health service. It supports adults with a psychosocial disability to either transition from an acute hospital setting or prevent hospital admissions.
Key responsibilities
- Purposefully engage with clients using techniques including: Brief intervention, Motivational interviewing and coaching, Family inclusive practice, Trauma informed practice, Conflict resolution
- Plan and develop group work programs that will assist clients to build their skills, focus on their recovery and work towards transitioning back to their natural community
- Support family and carer roles through understanding their concerns and the provision of information, education and referrals
- Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports for clients.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
- Proven experience in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
- Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
- Hold a current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to provide proof of vaccination against vaccine preventable diseases or willingness to obtain required vaccinations per Queensland Health partnership.
