About the role
We are seeking resilient, compassionate Community Mental Health Practitioners to join our supportive team in Cairns. These fixed-term, part-time roles (30.4 hours per week) are available within the Adult Step Up Step Down service or the Cairns Community Care Unit (CCU). In this role, you will provide intensive person-centred, recovery-oriented supports to people to achieve their wellbeing goals, build capacity and daily living skills, strengthen social connections, enhance community networks and grow confidence to live independently in the community.
This role requires flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including night shifts, weekdays, weekends, and sleepovers.
About the services
The Adult Step Up Step Down (ASUSD) is a short-term (up to 28 days, 24/7) residential service delivered in partnership with Queensland hospital networks and the local health service. It supports adults with a psychosocial disability to either transition from an acute hospital setting or prevent hospital admissions. ASUSD operates within a recovery-focused, clinical treatment framework, providing personalised one-on-one support, shared supports, and group activities based on each client’s strengths and goals as identified in their recovery plan.
The Community Care Unit (CCU) is a longer-term (24/7) residential service that provides intensive treatment and recovery support for people experiencing serious mental health challenges. It supports individuals whose lives have been disrupted, making independent living difficult. Clients have ongoing access to staff and are supported to stabilise their mental health and develop the skills needed to safely transition back into the community from a hospital environment.
