About the Service – Dandenong Locals

The Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing services, otherwise known as “Locals”, act as a front door to the mental health service system and provides a continuum of care and support including clinical interventions, wellbeing supports, and therapeutic support through an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug framework approach.

 

About the role

We are seeking an adaptable, culturally sensitive and supportive Family Therapist for a permanent fulltime (38 hours per week) opportunity in the Dandenong area. You will provide high quality counselling services, psychological clinical therapies, family interventions and group work, care plans and capacity building for families, carers and supporters of people experiencing mental ill health and/or alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake work with a strong understanding of cultural needs and implementing service in a way that supports cross cultural practice.
  • Develop and deliver family therapy group work sessions as required that will assist consumers, families, carers and supporters to build their skills, develop wellbeing supports and better support themselves and their loved ones.
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals which are part of the counselling formulation.
  • Contribute to service design, share knowledge and skills across the Service Stream.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional conduct and commitment to work collaboratively as a member of multidisciplinary team to provide integration and coordination between different sites or programs

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Counselling, Psychology, Family Therapy or other health related field as designated by Mind.
  • Able to obtain registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or equivalent accreditation.
  • Experience and expertise in working directly with people with mental health challenges, AOD challenges, complex needs and with their families, carers and supporters.
  • Previous significant experience in Counselling and/or Family Therapy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and clinical experience in flexible therapeutic support services including assessment, diagnosis, brief intervention, treatment planning and evaluation, education and research
