About the role

The Lived Experience organisational function works within Mind’s support hub and drives the implementation of mental health system reforms and service innovations informed by lived expertise, intersectionality, human rights and social justice.

The Lived Experience Design and Development team lead an organisation-wide program of work to design, develop, implement and embed lived expertise-led initiatives and approaches.  This role will work closely with the Family, Carer & Respite program, which provides a targeted range of supports and services to families and carers who are caring for people with mental ill-health and substance use challenges.

We are seeking a proactive, compassionate Family and Carer Engagement and Service Development Advisor for a permanent, full time opportunity in the Burnley area. You will engage with families, carers and supporters to support them to contribute to decision making processes and be involved  in co-design of family and carer services and programs.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and abilities gained from one’s own lived/living experiences and collective impacts.
  • Ensure the development of conditions that support families, carers and supporters across diverse communities to have a voice and influence in decision making.
  • Facilitate family and carer participation through working groups, steering committees and engagement opportunities.
  • Capacity to utilise a range of engagement tools to map and scope interest and impact of family and carer services.
  • Build relationships and form connections with the broader family and carer community and sector.
  • Participate in key pieces of work in the LE team that amplifies the voices, needs and priorities of families and carers.
  • Collaborate with the Manager Family Carer Strategy and Program Development to deliver key projects and a suite of work that improves the lives of families and carers, and supports staff in their work with families and carers at Mind.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training or clear timeline for completion
  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Allied Health, Community Development, Health Promotion or other health related field are desired but not required.
  • Have a lived/living experience as a family member, carer or supporter of someone who is experiencing, or has experienced mental ill-health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Project management expertise including the ability to develop and implement projects, coordinate and manage meetings, and support stakeholders and lived experience participants at program, organisation and community level.
