About the role
We are seeking a resilient and compassionate Community Mental Health Practitioner for a fixed-term, part-time opportunity (30.4 hours per week) at our Community Care Unit (CCU) in Cairns. You’ll provide intensive, person-centred, recovery-oriented support to help people transition from hospital to community living. This role involves working on a 24/7 rotating roster, including nights, weekends, and sleepovers.
Key responsibilities
- Support people to return to the community and live independently
- Engage clients using brief interventions, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and family-inclusive practice
- Plan and deliver group programs to support recovery and skill-building
- Support families and carers with education, information, and referrals
- Collaborate with community services to ensure coordinated and integrated support.
- Contribute to daily residential operations, including housekeeping duties.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Experience working with people with mental health challenges and complex needs, including families and carers.
- Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
