About the role

The Lived Experience Career Compass (LECC) Lead will work from a lived experience perspective to lead the coordinated delivery of three state-wide early career programs:

  • The Peer Cadet Program 
  • Pilot Student Placement Program -Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work
  • Local Mental Health and Wellbeing Services Early Career Program

 

The role will involve leading and managing projects, consultation, and building state-wide capability for early career programs. This is a Victorian-based role that requires the ability to form connections and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enable authentic and inclusive engagement and collaboration. 

 

The Lived Experience Career Compass Lead will champion the voice of lived experience in all their work, advocate for human rights and work to provide an alternative to traditional mental health responses through their work. 

 

Key responsibilities

  • Has a lived/living experience of mental distress and recovery and understanding of, and ability and willingness to, contribute this Lived Expertise in working towards greater state-wide and organisational impact.
  • Draw on lived expertise approaches informed by a commitment to social change and human rights to shape the delivery of lived experience workforce development strategies.
  • Advocate and work collaboratively with stakeholders to support the understanding of the Lived Experience Workforce and Early Career Programs. 
  • Support the design, development and implementation of successful Early Career Programs. 
  • Provide informed strategic advice regarding policies and procedures, legislation, workforce planning, Lived Experience practice, sustainability, and innovation.
  • Be working towards understanding the impacts of mutually reinforcing systems of discrimination and marginalisation that oppress people based on their intersectional identities and take a trauma-responsive, do no harm approach to supporting the early career workforce.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/or Advanced training is required.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by Mind are also desirable but not required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of lived experience workforce approaches including peer work, co-design, co-production and workforce development.
  • A commitment to social change and human rights centred practice. 
  • Passion to drive and champion change and progress the lived experience agenda throughout the organisation and more broadly.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with lived experience colleagues, community groups and key stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate groups of people and create connections and build relationships and community.
