About the Service

The Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service (YRRS) supports young people between the ages of 16 and 21 who are recovering from a disability associated with a psychiatric condition for up to 12 months stay in a safe, home-like therapeutic environment. The YRRS provides young people intensive individual and group based support that promotes resilience, interpersonal skills, enhanced social connections, life skills and access to the community.

 

About the role

We are seeking a supportive and resourceful Community Mental Health Practitioner for a permanent, part time (30 hours per week) opportunity in the Townsville area. You will work with clients, families and carers to help service users to return to a place of residence and a meaningful life supporting them through a staged approach to recovery through one-to-one support, shared supports, workshops and group work facilitation.

 

Please note, this position requires the successful candidate to have flexibility to commit to a rotating roster including a mix of AM, PM, and sleep over shifts.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Purposefully engage with clients using techniques including: Brief intervention, Motivational interviewing and coaching, Family inclusive practice, Trauma informed practice, Conflict resolution
  • Plan and develop group work programs that will assist clients to build their skills, focus on their recovery and work towards transitioning back to their natural community
  • Support family and carer roles through understanding their concerns and the provision of information, education and referrals
  • Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports for clients
  • Contribute to the day to day operations of the residential service through undertaking a range of housekeeping duties

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health related field as designated by Mind.
  • Hold current First Aid and CPR certifications and perform these duties as required as part of the role.
  • Proven experience in Youth Work, Community Services, Mental Health, Disability, Social Welfare, Housing or Healthcare or Government sectors is required.
  • Experience in assessing need and working collaboratively to plan goal focused recovery using evidence informed approaches and tools.
  • Skills and experience in advocacy, collaboration, facilitation, evaluation and problem solving.
  • Able to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases or able to obtain vaccinations against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.
