About the role

We are seeking compassionate, self-motivated Community Mental Health Practitioners for casual opportunities at the Adult Step-Up Step-Down residential service in Mackay. In this role, you will provide intensive, person-centred, recovery-oriented support to clients, helping them achieve their wellbeing goals, develop daily living skills, strengthen social connections, enhance community networks, and build confidence to live independently.

 

Please note: this position requires flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including night shifts, weekdays, weekends, and sleepovers.

 

About the service

The Adult Step-Up Step-Down (ASUSD) residential service, delivered in partnership with Mackay Hospital and Health Service, supports adults with a psychosocial disability up to 28 days transitioning from a hospital setting back into the community or to prevent admissions whilst residing in the community. ASUSD works within a recovery focused, clinical treatment framework providing personalised one-on-one support, shared supports and group activities based on client’s strengths and goals as identified in their recovery plan.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Purposefully engage with clients using techniques including: Brief intervention, Motivational interviewing and coaching, Family inclusive practice, Trauma informed practice, Conflict resolution
  • Plan and develop group work programs that will assist clients to build their skills, focus on their recovery and work towards transitioning back to their natural community
  • Support family and carer roles through understanding their concerns and the provision of information, education and referrals
  • Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports for clients.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Hold current First Aid and CPR certifications and perform these duties as required as part of the role.
  • Proven experience in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Ability to provide a record of vaccination for Vaccine Preventable Diseases or willingness to obtain vaccinations for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B, or other diseases as required through our partnership with QLD Health.
