About the role

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services act as a front door to the mental health service system and provides a continuum of care and support including clinical interventions, wellbeing supports, and therapeutic support through an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug framework approach.

We are seeking a self-motivated, compassionate Bicultural Worker for a Permanent, Part-Time (30 hours per week) opportunity supporting the Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services in the Dandenong area. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high-quality one-to-one individualised support, intake and assessment, outreach support, service navigation and care coordination within an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drugs framework. The role is a will play an integral part in working collaboratively with people seeking to enhance recovery, personal growth and activities of daily living utilising their first language.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Willingness to utilise community language/s in your work with people accessing the Local, community groups, community leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Willingness to draw upon your lived experience of migration to Australia from another country and/or being a family member of people who have migrated to Australia and being exposed to dual/multiple cultural influences.
  • Support people to understand the Intake Assessment and Referral tool (IAR) and support people to complete this as their next step in accessing the Local services.
  • Plan and develop group work programs that will assist people to build their skills, focus on their recovery and work towards transitioning back to their natural community.
  • Facilitate, as appropriate, the re-engagement and maintenance of family and carer relationships.
  • Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports for people seeking service that facilitate them living the life of their choosing in their own community.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health related field as designated by Mind.
  • Fluency in relevant community languages/s and English.
  • Experience and expertise in working directly with people with mental health issues, AOD challenges, complex needs and with their families and carers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to consult, negotiate and influence peers, stakeholders and government agencies with diplomacy to achieve effective outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of theoretical approaches, practices and appropriate service responses including family inclusive practice, trauma informed theory, cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing and harm reduction therapy.
