About the Service
Help aHead aims to improve access to mental health support for the community by delivering services that address people’s social, physical and emotional needs. It will provide access to psychological and psychosocial support, care coordination, and local service navigation, with the capacity to scale and meet a wide range of mental health needs, including those with co-occurring conditions or complex psychosocial barriers.
About the role
We are seeking a collaborative and culturally competent Bilingual Mental Health Worker a permanent, fulltime (38 hours per week) opportunity in the Sydney area. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide support for individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse populations. You will provide language support, cultural liaison, and culturally responsive care to those people seeking support.
Arabic language skills are highly desirable, reflecting the needs of the community we support in this bilingual mental health role.
Key responsibilities
- Follow a Person-Led approach, work dialogically and apply the Open Dialogue model of work.
- Provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed support tailored to the individual’s beliefs, values, and practices
- Deliver care in the person’s preferred language where possible, reducing barriers to communication and understanding
- Support culturally safe engagement of families, carers, and community where appropriate
- Work collaboratively with the broader multidisciplinary team to embed culturally & linguistically inclusive practice across the service

What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by ODMH.
- An understanding of the recovery-based approach to assisting people with mental health concerns.
- Knowledge of the NSW mental health system and local services; or demonstrated ability to rapidly develop this knowledge.
- Bilingual – fluent in relevant language/s of the culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve effective outcomes.
