About the Service

Help aHead aims to improve access to mental health support for the community by delivering services that address people’s social, physical and emotional needs. It will provide access to psychological and psychosocial support, care coordination, and local service navigation, with the capacity to scale and meet a wide range of mental health needs, including those with co-occurring conditions or complex psychosocial barriers.

 

About the role

We are seeking a Credentialled Mental Health Nurse for a permanent, (38 hours per week) opportunity in the Sydney area. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will provide clinical care, comprehensive and holistic mental health assessments, coordinate care, and collaborate with GPs, clinicians, peer workers and community supports. You will support individuals and their families to access integrated health and psychosocial services to promote wellbeing and community living.

 

Credentialing as a mental health nurse is a requirement, but we welcome candidates who are working toward this or open to completing it in the future. Support will be provided.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Perform mental health assessments, both triage and comprehensive.
  • Provide 1:1 health education around issues relevant to people accessing the Centre, including substance use, medication, nutrition, exercise, sexual health and general health and wellbeing.
  • Purposefully engage with people accessing the Centre using techniques including but not limited to: Open dialogue, Trauma informed practice, AOD screening, Motivational interviewing and coaching.
  • Provide secondary consultation and support to staff members.
  • Ensure high levels of satisfaction and quality of care for the people we support and their families/friends.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Nursing.
  • Current registration with APHRA and credentialed by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.
  • An understanding of the recovery-based approach to assisting people with mental health concerns.
  • Demonstrated advanced ability in the provision of mental health risk assessment, alcohol and other drugs screening, recovery planning, and assertive clinical coordination for people experiencing a deterioration in their mental health state.
  • Knowledge of the NSW mental health system and local services; or demonstrated ability to rapidly develop this knowledge.
