About the role

We are seeking empathetic and motivated Community Mental Health Practitioners to join our new Transitional Recovery Program (FTRP) in Cairns. This program supports adults on forensic orders leaving acute mental health services to achieve their recovery goals, build independence, and thrive in the community.

 

With 24/7 residential support, you will provide person-centred care in a home-like environment, helping people develop life skills, rebuild confidence, and strengthen social and community connections. Please note: This position includes active night shifts as part of a 24/7 residential roster.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Engage clients using motivational interviewing, brief interventions, trauma-informed care, and family-inclusive practices.
  • Collaborate with clients, families, and carers through one-on-one support, workshops, and group facilitation
  • Develop and facilitate group programs to build skills and support recovery goals.
  • Collaborate with community services to ensure coordinated support.
  • Contribute to day-to-day operations, including housekeeping duties.
  • Work a 24/7 rotating roster, including active night shifts, weekends, and sleepovers, to provide consistent and responsive care.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Youth Work, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, or other health-related field.
  • Experience working with people with mental health challenges and complex needs, including families and carers.
  • Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery-oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma- informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Confidence and reliability to work independently and as part of a 24/7 team, including overnight and weekend shifts.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Ability to provide proof of vaccination against vaccine preventable diseases or willingness to obtain required vaccinations per Queensland Health partnership.
