About the Service
Medicare Mental Health Centre Canterbury provides a welcoming, low‑stigma entry point for adults needing timely mental health support. Using an Open Dialogue approach, it offers short‑ to medium‑term care, strengthens personal networks and empowers people to shape their recovery while connecting them to ongoing community supports.
Our service is preparing to move into a larger, purpose‑built centre and will soon operate seven days a week. As we grow, we’re seeking team members who can offer flexibility, including weekend and afternoon shifts, to help us provide consistent, high‑quality care.
About the role
We are seeking a skilled communicator and trust-building Counsellor for a permanent part time 4 days per week opportunity in the Canterbury area. Reporting to the centre manager, you will offer brief interventions, case management, complete intake and risk assessments, and collaborate with stakeholders and support networks
Key responsibilities
- Complete intake assessments with people who walk into the centre, self-refer or are referred by another service.
- Ensure the voices of the people we support are central to all decisions about their care, promoting agency and collaboration.
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary and interprofessional team within the Centre which has a strong value for lived and living experience expertise and the discipline of Intentional Peer support.
- Develop care plans with clients, incorporating their goals, preferences and support networks.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and adhere to ethical and professional standards.

What you’ll bring
- Relevant tertiary qualifications Tertiary Qualification in Counselling with current registration with the relevant professional body (e.g. PACFA or minimum Level 3 ACA).
- Current arrangements for clinical supervision (as per registration requirements).
- An understanding of the recovery-based approach to assisting people with mental health concerns.
- Demonstrated experience in providing clinical assessments and evidence-based mental health interventions.
- Knowledge of the NSW mental health system and local services; or demonstrated ability to rapidly develop this knowledge.
