About the role

We are seeking self-motivated, empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioners eager to make a difference in young people’s lives for casual opportunities at the Youth Step Up Step Down residential service in Caboolture. In this role, you will provide person-centred, recovery-orientated support to young people to achieve their recovery goals, build capacity to live safely in the community, strengthen social connections, establish daily routines and practice daily living skills.

This role requires flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including night shifts, weekdays, weekends, and sleepovers.

About the role

The Youth Step Up Step Down (YSUSD) service is a short-term residential mental health program for young people aged 16–21, delivered in partnership with the local health service. It provides intensive individual and group support to build resilience, social connection, and wellbeing. YSUSD offers a ‘step up’ alternative to hospital admission or a ‘step down’ transition from hospital back to the community. Young people actively shape their recovery, with support from the YSUSD team and, where appropriate, their family, carers, and other key supports.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality services to respond to the unique needs of young people, offering a flexible and person-centred approach.
  • Support young people to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
  • Provide information and mentoring to young people to foster positive relationships with those important to them, create community networks and access to relevant services.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid young people to build their skills and focus on recovery.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to young people’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Hold a current First Aid and CPR certificate and perform these duties as required as part of the role.
  • Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Demonstrated experience applying evidence-based approaches, including trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and family-inclusive practices.
  • Ability to provide a record of vaccination for Vaccine Preventable Diseases or willingness to obtain vaccinations for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B, or other diseases as required through our partnership with QLD Health.

Benefits

  • Salary packaging up to $15,899 p.a. allows you to allocate a portion of your pre-tax income to cover living expenses (e.g. rent, mortgage, child care, car leasing expenses etc.)
  • Fitness Passport - Access to our corporate health and fitness program, providing you and family with access to a wide choice of fitness facilities.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), provided by Converge International, for you and your immediate family members.
  • Professional development through regular supervision sessions.
