About the role

headspace Box Hill is part of Victoria Operations Service Stream for Mind Australia. headspace Box Hill aims to promote and facilitate improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young people aged 12-25 years residing in the Eastern Region of Melbourne. In this youth friendly space, services are delivered across four core streams – physical and sexual health, mental health, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), and educational and vocational services.

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate Lead Multicultural Practitioner for a Fixed Term, Part Time (15.2 hours per week until January 2027) opportunity working in the Box Hill area. In this role you will serve as a specialist CALD clinical liaison within the headspace Box Hill team, delivering tailored intake, assessment, intervention, and single-session therapy both in-centre and through outreach. The position works alongside the Service Manager and Clinical Lead to support service development, workforce capacity, and Model Integrity Framework alignment, and requires fluency in English and a second language (preferably Mandarin) to bridge cultural and language barriers.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide advice and guidance on the planning, development and implementation of policies, strategies, programs and services that support CALD young people.
  • Willingness to utilise community language/s in your work with people accessing headspace Box Hill services, community groups, community leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Support the team to understand and deliver services within the service of headspace Box Hill that are culturally safe.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with multicultural communities, community leaders, organisations and stakeholders across Whitehorse and Manningham LGAs.
  • Facilitate, as appropriate, the re-engagement and maintenance of family, friends, and carer relationships.
  • Take a leadership role in the team, overseeing and refining the clinical services and assisting in monitoring professional practice, workload management and welfare of staff.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field as designated by Mind.
  • Fluency in English and a second language (preferably Mandarin) to bridge cultural and language barriers.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with young people and/or adults and families with mental health and/or contextual challenges including family violence, poverty, homelessness, drug and alcohol, and protective issues.
  • Capacity to collaborate with the Clinical Lead and Service Manager to develop an understanding of the community services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, agencies, and key stakeholders.
  • A lived experience of mental ill health and recovery or experience caring for a person with mental ill health is desirable.
