About the service

The Youth Prevention and Recovery Care service (YPARC) is a residential service providing services to youth aged between 16 – 25 years. The service works within a lived experience, recovery focused and clinical treatment framework, using the partnership expertise of both Mind Australia and the Health Service.

The service is designed as a ‘step up, step down’ program for young people with mental illness who require individualised treatment and support entering either directly from the community or as a transition from acute inpatient care.

 

About the role

The Lead Practitioner - Lived Experience (LP-LE) utilises the learning from their lived/living experience of mental health challenges and/or alcohol and drug challenges to walk alongside Peer Practitioners, Community Mental Health Practitioners and the broader support team at the YPARC. YPARC will provide free short-term (up to 28 days) support in a home-like setting for young people experiencing mental ill health who require individualised treatment and support entering either directly from the community or as a transition from acute inpatient care.

We are seeking a Lead Practitioner - Lived Experience for a permanent part‑time position based in the Shepparton area. You will utilise your learnings from lived/living experience of mental health challenges, languages of pain and other intersectional identities to hold space and opportunity for healing for those accessing the YPARC.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and abilities gained from both an individuals lived/living experiences, collective impacts and Lived Expertise, and be able to support the development of these approaches across the reach of Mind’s work.
  • Lead and model for effective practice in working directly with young people, providing support to families and carers, undertaking planning and delivery of group work, and working with local service providers.
  • Walk alongside people during their stay, ensuring that even in the moments where a person is experiencing distress you continue to be honest, and open, holding connection and relationship at the heart of your interactions
  • Support your team to understand and role model the delivery of YPARC services and approaches that are consistent with recovery-oriented practice from a peer/Lived Experience perspective and in line with IPS practice models.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to ensure a coordinated and integrated response to each person’s holistic care plan
  • Support the development of a consistent narrative on the value of Lived Experience to the organisation across quality, values and business outcomes.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training and/or Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework expertise and practice experience
  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health related field.
  • Proven capability to coach, mentor and develop a team to achieve best quality service outcomes including experience in the provision of professional supervision.
  • Has a lived/living experience of mental distress and recovery and understanding of, and ability and willingness to, contribute this Lived Expertise in working towards greater social impact.
  • Ability to share learnings from your personal story in an appropriate and purposeful manner to support, empower, speak about the times of hopelessness and the importance of hope, and support the recovery of clients.
