About the role
We are seeking a proactive and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our new Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre. Reporting to the Clinical Lead, you will deliver high-quality clinical assessments, therapeutic interventions and recovery-focused support to people experiencing severe and complex mental ill health, dual disabilities and psychosocial challenges.
Whether you are a new graduate or an experienced clinician, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments, including functional and sensory assessments
- Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions tailored to individual client needs
- Support clients through person-centred, strengths-based and recovery-oriented practice
- Develop support plans, treatment plans and short-term interventions aligned with best practice
- Provide care coordination, advocacy and referrals to community and clinical supports
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and alongside families, carers and external stakeholders

About the service
The Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a welcoming, low-stigma alternative to emergency departments for people experiencing distress or crisis. Delivered in partnership with Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, the centre operates 7 days per week and offers clinical, non-clinical, outreach and telehealth support, connecting people to ongoing services including AOD, housing and community supports.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy, with current or eligible for AHPRA registration.
- Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex needs using recovery-oriented approaches
- Strong skills in assessment, therapeutic planning and recovery-oriented practice.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, with strong organisational, communication, and advocacy skills.
