About the role
The Lived Experience Residential Service will provide free short-term support in a home-like setting for people experiencing mental health crisis and distress. This innovative trial service is designed and run by a highly experienced and skilled peer workforce. The Equity and Cultural Wellbeing Coordinator will draw on their lived experience to help co-create a safe enough environment for CARM peoples experiencing distress.
We are seeking a compassionate Lived Experience Equity and Cultural Wellbeing Coordinator for a 12-month fixed term, fulltime opportunity in the Geelong area. You will work to to foster cultural awareness, develop and support mechanisms for cultural safety, promote intersectionality, and in reach to communities most harmed by mental health services. This role will collaborate and focus on relationships, building connections within the community, and championing community voice within the service.
Key responsibilities
- Identify opportunities for collaboration with intersectional communities (including First Nations, Culturally and Racially Marginalized, and other marginalised communities) and broader sectors to advance equity, inclusion, and service development on social justice issues.
- Work to form pathways and develop relationships with external stakeholders to help connect with communities.
- Provide advice and guidance on Lived Experience and Intersectional Equity issues to all relevant areas of the service and more broadly if required.
- Draw on lived expertise approaches informed by a commitment to social change and human rights to help shape the delivery of lived experience workforce development strategies.
- Support intersectional and culturally diverse strategies that build capacity of the LERS team in line with evidence-informed approaches.
- Actively embed cultural safety, responsiveness, and humility mechanisms to create spaces where intersectional communities can feel seen, valued, and heard.
What you’ll bring
- Lived or Living Experience of intersectional identities, specifically CARM communities and lived experience of mental distress
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/or Advanced training.
- Experience working in, or closely with, intersectional communities and/or broader sectors, to advance intersectionality and equity, or organisational development on related social justice issues.
- Proven experience designing, delivering, and evaluating diversity, equity, and inclusion programs alongside intersectional and marginalised communities.
- Strong capability in cultural bridging, cultural safety, and humility to build trust, respect, and meaningful collaboration.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate groups of people and create connections and build relationships and community.
