About the Service
One Door Mental Health is establishing Distress Brief Support Short-Term Support Team (DBS STST) in Tamworth as a pilot program, designed as a trial short-term service to test and refine an early-intervention, recovery-oriented response to distress. The service is available to adults aged 18 years and over and aims to complement existing clinical and community services by providing timely, person-centred support during periods of heightened distress
About the role
We are seeking a lived experience led and supportive mentor for a Peer Practitioner Lead fulltime fixed term (38 hours per week) opportunity in the Tamworth area until 30 June 2027. This role supports the practice of Peer Practitioners in the Tamworth Distress Brief Support Short Term Support Team. Aligning workforce to fidelity of Intentional Peer Support Practice and ensuring that there is consistency across the program, so people accessing service can receive consistent peer work practice.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a key communication link between the peer practitioner team and the Service Manager, ensuring timely information sharing, coordination and follow-up on service delivery decisions.
- Provide leadership regarding practice development to enable peer practitioners to work from a place of intentional peer support practice ensuring quality relational practice for people accessing the service.
- Deliver outreach-based peer support, including visiting clients in community settings and other services, to support engagement, reduce barriers to access, and assist clients to connect with appropriate supports
- Be grounded in the discipline of Lived Expertise, drawing from your own lived experience, informed by a commitment to social change, human rights, dignity and choice to shape the delivery of your work and that of ODMH.

What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by ODMH.
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, is desirable but not required.
- Experience in leadership roles would be highly desirable or leadership qualifications.
- Proven capability to coach, mentor and develop a team to achieve best quality service outcomes including experience in the provision of professional supervision
- Demonstrated understanding of Lived Experience approaches including peer work, co-design and workforce development.
