About the role
The Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation (PRR) service is a medium-term residential rehabilitation program designed for people aged between 18-64 years living with severe and enduring psychosocial disability which has impacted their ability to live independently in the community. Funded through a client’s NDIS package, SIL residences are typically staffed 24/7 and offer a peer recovery environment to encourage sharing and connection. The service works collaboratively with clients providing one-on-one support, shared supports and group activities based on identified strengths and goals to better understand and develop strategies to manage their mental ill health, enhance personal and daily living skills, develop service provider networks, grow social and community connections, strengthen relationships with families and carers, and build confidence and capacity to live safely and independently.
We are seeking a compassionate and self-motivated Mental Health Support Worker to join our dedicated team in Brunswick West. This role operates on a 7 day per weekday roster, including sleepover shifts. You will play an integral role providing positive person-centred, recovery-oriented supports to clients to achieve wellbeing goals, develop capacity and life skills, strengthen social connections, enhance support networks and grow confidence to live independently.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
- Support clients to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team offering specialised psychosocial support.
- Plan and deliver group programs that aid clients to build their skills and focus on recovery.
- Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client’s recovery goals.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate III) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
- Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
- Ability to provide information and mentoring to build capability, establish social relationships, create community networks and access to relevant services.
- Experience in facilitating group activities for clients experiencing mental ill health is desirable.
- Understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
