About the role
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services act as a front door to the mental health service system and provides a continuum of care and support including clinical interventions, wellbeing supports, and therapeutic support through an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug framework approach.
We are seeking a self-motivated, compassionate Occupational Therapist for a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity supporting the Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services in the Dandenong area. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high-quality clinical assessments, flexible therapeutic interventions, expert consultation, and specialist services, including positive behaviour support and capacity building to older people experiencing severe and complex mental health challenges, AOD, loneliness, isolation and dual disabilities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive and flexible therapeutic support services to older people including an advanced level of assessment, diagnosis, brief intervention, treatment planning and evaluation, education and research in accordance with professional, ethical and National Standards utilising clinical experience.
- Build capacity, understanding and provide training to families, carers and supporters, support the Locals team and other clinical teams.
- Deliver mental health interventions and allied health therapy assessments, both functional and sensory, that can be adapted to meet the unique and individual needs of the older person.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary interprofessional team and other relevant stakeholders to promote and facilitate access to primary mental health care services including the provision of support to assist staff to recognise and respond to mental health conditions and provide effective clinical management.
- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders including opinion leaders, community groups, diverse communities, service providers, partners, local government, government agencies and other organisations relevant to the work.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary degree qualifications in Occupational Therapy or other health related field as designated by Mind.
- Able to obtain registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or equivalent accreditation and/or able to hold Mental Health Accreditation.
- Previous experience in similar Allied Health clinical role specialising in working with older adults.
- Proven skills in assessment, therapeutic planning and delivery within a recovery-oriented practice framework.
- Understanding of the NDIS, Community Services sector, Private Health and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
