Pioneer Clubhouse is a safe, supportive, and respectful community with a focus on helping people to engage with social networks, employment, volunteering, and education depending on their goals. Supports are also provided to building social connections, enhance skill building, and promote health and wellbeing.
About the role
We are seeking a collaborative and grounded Peer Practitioner for a permanent, part time opportunity located in Balgowlah. You will work within Pioneer Clubhouse to support the delivery of group activities to people in the local community experiencing mental health challenges placing the relationship and service user at the centre of their journey. This is done through working with a person to understand and identify their story, identify how they would like to move towards what is possible in their lives by focusing on relational care.
Key responsibilities
- Provide peer-based support to people living with mental health concerns by building trust through shared experiences, promoting a hopeful outlook, and offering consistent, empathetic engagement.
- Complete comprehensive documentation including reviewing and adjusting ‘Safety and Wellness Plans’ and other goal-focused agreements prior to the delivery of supports, to ensure supports are delivered safely and in the manner agreed with the people we support.
- Assist the person with system navigation and linkages to community agencies or support systems that will assist them to address life impacts and barriers to full social, educational and employment participation, as required.
- Contribute to a culturally responsive workforce and service environment for staff, service users, family/carers and volunteers from all cultures, genders, sexualities, bodies, abilities, spiritualities, ages and backgrounds

What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by ODMH.
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, is desirable but not required.
- Has a lived/living experience of mental distress and recovery and understanding of, and ability and willingness to contribute this Lived Expertise in working towards greater organisational impact.
- Experience or ability to acquire skills in understanding needs and working collaboratively to plan wellbeing supports using evidence informed approaches and tools, for example in challenging situations.
- Ability to share passions like music (guitar) or cooking, which support engagement and connection for our consumer group is highly desirable.
