About the Service
The PICS program provides evidence based mental health interventions, linking clients to primary health and psychosocial supports to meet the individual needs of those who experiences severe mental illness. PICS is delivered by a team of experienced and credentialed mental health nurses and peer workers.
About the role
We are seeking a resilient and empowering Peer Worker for a part time (7.6 hours per week) fixed term opportunity until June 30, 2026 in the Belmore, Redfern and Carlton area. You will work with a person to understand and identify their story, identify how they would like to move towards what is possible in their lives by focusing on relational care.
Key responsibilities
- Travel and meet with people, clinicians and team members in the community and One Door hub locations across Central and Eastern Sydney.
- Work with the nurses, in the development of the individual care plans with clarity of identified roles and tasks.
- Provide ongoing support to the client within the context of the care plan and goal setting.
- Provide the client with education and strategies for the development of decision-making, self-advocacy, self-management and wellness skills using personal lived experience.
- Build on knowledge of current services in the area to link clients to relevant services. Be able to refer to other services when needed. Share this information with the whole team to build up the knowledge of available services.

What you’ll bring
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, is desirable but not required.
- Has a lived/living experience of mental distress and recovery and understanding of, and ability and willingness to, contribute this Lived Expertise in working towards greater organisational impact.
- Experience or ability to acquire skills in understanding needs and working collaboratively to plan wellbeing supports using evidence informed approaches and tools, for example in challenging situations.
- Ability to work in a team environment, yet in a very autonomous role.
- Current driver’s licence and have access to a comprehensively insured motor vehicle
