About the Service

Medicare Mental Health Centre Canterbury provides a welcoming, low‑stigma entry point for adults needing timely mental health support. Using an Open Dialogue approach, it offers short‑ to medium‑term care, strengthens personal networks and empowers people to shape their recovery while connecting them to ongoing community supports.

 

Our service is preparing to move into a larger, purpose‑built centre and will soon operate seven days a week. As we grow, we’re seeking team members who can offer flexibility, including weekend and afternoon shifts, to help us provide consistent, high‑quality care.

 

About the role

We are seeking an evidence-informed and collaborative Psychologist for a permanent part time 27.8 hours per week opportunity in the Canterbury area. You will provide high quality, comprehensive clinical assessments, flexible therapeutic interventions, expert consultation and specialist services including positive behaviour support and capacity building to the people we support.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Offer therapeutic interventions, complete intake and risk assessments, provide case management, and collaborate with stakeholders and support networks.
  • Collaborate with people we support on completing and/or reviewing risk assessments to ensure supports are delivered safely.
  • Apply professional judgement within the role, adapting routine clinical practice based on valid and reliable evidence for people with complex care needs.
  • Complete intake assessments with people who walk into the centre, self-refer or are referred by another service.

What you’ll bring

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications Tertiary Qualification in Psychology with current registration with the relevant professional body (provisional or full registration with AHPRA).
  • Current arrangements for clinical supervision (as per registration requirements).
  • An understanding of the recovery-based approach to assisting people with mental health concerns.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing clinical assessments and evidence-based mental health interventions.
  • Knowledge of the NSW mental health system and local services; or demonstrated ability to rapidly develop this knowledge.
