About the Service

Medicare Mental Health Centre Canterbury provides a welcoming, low‑stigma entry point for adults needing timely mental health support. Using an Open Dialogue approach, it offers short‑ to medium‑term care, strengthens personal networks and empowers people to shape their recovery while connecting them to ongoing community supports.

 

Our service is preparing to move into a larger, purpose‑built centre and will soon operate seven days a week. As we grow, we’re seeking team members who can offer flexibility, including weekend and afternoon shifts, to help us provide consistent, high‑quality care.

 

About the role

We are seeking an inspiring, grounded and trauma informed Senior Peer Practitioner for a permanent full time (38 hours per week) opportunity in the Canterbury area. You will support the practice of Peer Practitioners at Canterbury Medicare Mental Health Centre.  Aligning workforce to fidelity of Intentional Peer Support Practice and ensuring that there is consistency across the program, so people accessing service can receive consistent peer work practice.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with the Centre Manager and Clinical Lead to contribute to service planning and review.
  • Ensure cohesiveness in the design and delivery of services with the aim of optimising resources and improving service delivery.
  • Facilitate reflective practice with teams as required and identify opportunities and implement strategies to continually enhance a learning culture within the team.
  • Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports that facilitate a person living the life of their choosing in their own community.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by ODMH.
  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, is desirable but not required.
  • Experience in leadership roles would be highly desirable or leadership qualifications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Lived Experience approaches including peer work, co-design and workforce development.
  • Proven capability to coach, mentor and develop a team to achieve best quality service outcomes including experience in the provision of professional supervision
