About the role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Service Manager to lead the Bidi Wungen Kaat Centre (Transitional Care Unit) in St James, Victoria Park.

In this leadership role, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the service and lead a team of highly skilled Peer Practitioners providing relationship-centred peer connection with people engaging the service, moving towards what wellbeing looks like for each person. The Peer Practitioners are a vital part of a wider clinical team engaging people in recovery-oriented and person-centred support.

You will provide strong operational and people leadership, ensuring service quality, performance, workforce capability, financial management and compliance requirements are effectively managed. You will also build and maintain strong relationships with clinical partners, community organisations and other key stakeholders to support positive outcomes for residents.

About the services

The Bidi Wungen Kaat Centre, delivered in partnership with East Metro Health Service, supports adults aged 18–64 to transition from hospital to community or prevent hospital admissions. Delivered by a multidisciplinary team of mental health clinicians and peer workers, the service supports residents to achieve their goals, build life skills, strengthen relationships, connect with support networks, and develop the confidence and capacity to live independently.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage high-quality, recovery-oriented services for people, families and carers in line with Mind’s Model of Recovery-Oriented Practice.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and supervision to a multidisciplinary team to achieve high-quality service and performance outcomes.
  • Oversee intake, assessment, recovery planning, care reviews and discharge processes in partnership with clinical teams.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with clinical services, community organisations, government agencies and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage service performance, budgets, reporting, contractual obligations and compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Foster a positive, high-performing culture that values lived experience, continuous improvement, cultural safety and workforce development.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people experiencing mental health challenges, complex needs and their families and carers.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to coach, develop and support a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience applying recovery-oriented, person-centred and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and organisational skills, with experience managing service performance, budgets and competing priorities.
  • Lived experience of mental ill health and recovery, or experience caring for someone with mental ill health, is highly valued.

Benefits

  • Access to generous not-for-profit salary packaging (up to $15,899 p.a.) to increase your take-home pay
  • Option to access Meal and Entertainment allowance up to $2,650 p.a.
  • Access a range of employee benefits including our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Fitness Passport and Workplace Banking with CommBank.
  • Ongoing professional development and career growth opportunities
