About the role
headspace in partnership with Mind aims to promote and facilitate improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young people aged 12-25 years residing in the Eastern Region of Melbourne. Services in this youth friendly space are delivered across four core streams - physical and sexual health, mental health, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), and educational and vocational services to improve access for young people to mental health programs as well as ensuring better co-ordination between service providers.
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate Youth Health Nurse for a Fixed Term, Part Time (7.6 hours per week until June 2026) opportunity working in the Box Hill area. You will play an integral role supporting the development and promotion of physical, sexual, mental and psychosocial health services at the Headspace Centre. This position provides person-centred supports, clinical nursing services, health information and education, referrals and advocacy to young people.
Key responsibilities
- Perform youth health assessments and screening, escalate concerns to internal and external services and parents, caregivers or guardians as appropriate.
- Advocate on behalf of young people increase their awareness about issues directly affecting their health and wellbeing and enhance their ability to make informed choices in this regard.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team facilitating the delivery of responsive, coordinated clinical care, treatment and referral pathways to young people, families and carers.
- Work alongside the Community Engagement team to represent headspace and promote the Centre's services at community awareness events.
- Collaborate and provide consultant to a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary degree qualifications in Mental Health Nursing, Registered Nursing or other health related field and hold current registration with AHPRA and/or Mental Health Accreditation.
- Proven experience in mental health risk assessments, crisis planning, relapse preventions, recovery planning, brief psychological therapy techniques and assertive care coordination.
- Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
- Experience in facilitating and developing workshops for clients with mental ill health.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
