About the role

The Sub-Acute short stay ‘step up, step down’ Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC) service, delivered in partnership with Austin Health and Mind Australia, supports young people with psychosocial disability to transition from an acute hospital setting (Step-down) or to prevent hospital admissions by providing extra support to those entering directly from the community (step-up).

The Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC) service is a residential program providing short-term, intensive treatment up to 28 days to young people aged between 16-25 years living with mental health challenges.

 

We are seeking a compassionate Team Leader (Lived Expertise) for a permanent, full time opportunity in the Heidelberg area. You will provide leadership and support to a dedicated team ensuring the delivery of high quality recovery-oriented services. You champion the voice of lived experience whilst having delegated authority to make day-to-day decisions to ensure the operational requirements of the service are met.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and abilities gained from lived and living experiences, collective impacts, and Lived Expertise and be able to support the development of these approaches.
  • Lead delivery of services to young people, carers and families to ensure that individually tailored services for young people and their family and carers are provided to the highest standard.
  • Provide practice supervision to staff who are providing direct support to people at the service.
  • Operate within delegated authority and undertake a range of administrative tasks that support co-design development activities.
  • Support a team whose practices vary to finding ways in which to bring them together with common values and principles.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by Mind are also desirable but not required  
  • Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Ability to share learnings from your personal story in an appropriate and purposeful manner to support, empower, speak about the times of hopelessness and the importance of hope. 
  • Experience leading teams, preferably in a residential or youth focused setting.
