About the role
Mind Australia is a national not for profit organisation providing mental health, wellbeing and psychosocial support services to people accessing our services. Mind Australia has three fully owned subsidiaries – The Haven Foundation, Haven Foundation Australia and One Door Mental Health based in New South Wales.
The Victoria Operations Service Stream provides a range of services that support people living with severe and enduring psychosocial disability encompassing housing and Housing Support services, Subacute bed-based, Community based mobile outreach psychosocial services, Centre based services, Specialist Allied Health Clinical services, Youth Services, Lived Experience led and run services as well as Family and carer services. Services are designed to support clients, families and carers heal from the impact of mental ill health focusing on achieving wellbeing goals, enhancing recovery, building capacity and daily living skills, maintaining sustainable housing, improving relationships with families and carers, developing community connections, and living safely and independently in the community.
This is an excellent opportunity for internal applicants with proven leadership experience, to get exposure to a General Manager role within the Victorian Operations team. The role will be offered on a Full-Time basis, as a parental leave cover Secondment, until Feb 2027. Managing the South Eastern region, you will provide leadership in operational and financial management, nurture partnerships with service providers and stakeholders, and mentor evidenced-based practice to support delivery of services to clients, families and carers. The General Manager will drive strategy implementation consistent with organisational strategic and operational plans, achieve service performance and budget targets, and manage services in line with approved systems, policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Lead operational performance across mental health and wellbeing services, ensuring contract compliance, service quality, and achievement of performance targets.
- Build and manage key relationships with commissioning bodies (government, PHNs, clinical services) and act as the primary representative for service contracts and reporting.
- Provide brave, purpose‑led leadership, coaching Managers and teams, fostering autonomy, and shaping a positive, high‑performance culture.
- Oversee service delivery, ensuring person‑centred, safe, ethical, and compliant practices aligned with Mind’s models, standards, and policies.
- Lead workforce capability, supporting supervision, performance management, wellbeing, and professional development across programs.
- Manage budgets and financial performance, including resource planning, indexation, monitoring expenditure, and supporting business sustainability and growth.
- Strengthen stakeholder and community engagement, developing partnerships, participating in governance groups, and championing client and family feedback.
- Support risk, safety, and crisis management, including oversight of incidents, HR matters, business continuity planning, and participation in critical response activities.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, or a related health field.
- Senior leadership experience in complex community services, mental health, disability, social welfare, housing, healthcare, or government sectors.
- Extensive knowledge of mental health service delivery, legislation, quality frameworks, and models including NDIS, Housing with Support (HWS), assisted living, and Core Supports.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, build relationships, and manage diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to analyse financial and operational data, manage budgets, ensure compliance, and support business sustainability.
- High-level organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple complex tasks, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and effectively use IT systems.
