About the role
This is a fixed-term, part-time opportunity (17 hours per week) as parental leave cover at the Transitional Care Unit (TCU) in St James.
In this role, you will draw on your lived or living experience of mental health and/or alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges to provide intensive, person-centred, recovery-oriented peer support. You will empower service users to identify their goals and take meaningful steps toward recovery and wellbeing.
Key responsibilities
- Provide individual peer support grounded in your lived/living experience, including safe and purposeful sharing to build hope and support recovery.
- Utilise the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) framework to walk alongside individuals in distress.
- Design and facilitate group programs that support peer connection and wellbeing.
- Support people to navigate systems and connect with services, education, employment and community supports.
- Work in a family-inclusive way, strengthening connections with carers and natural supports
- Contribute to co-design and co-production, service improvement, and ongoing professional development including peer co-reflection.
What you’ll bring
- Lived or living experience of mental health and/or AOD challenges, with a willingness to share your learnings to support others.
- Certificate IV or higher in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health-related field.
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support (IPS) Core and/or Advanced Training, or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (highly desirable).
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
