About the role
We’re looking for a compassionate and self-motivated Peer Practitioner to join the Transitional Recovery Program (TRP) in Rockhampton and Yeppoon.
In this role, you will use your lived or living experience of mental health and/or alcohol and other drug challenges to walk alongside people as they transition from acute mental health settings back into everyday life. You’ll support people to build confidence, strengthen independence, and take meaningful steps toward their personal recovery goals within a recovery-oriented, peer-led approach.
About the service
The Transitional Recovery Program (TRP) operates across two residential houses in the Rockhampton region and Yeppoon, supporting adults transitioning from acute mental health settings back into the community and reducing the need for further hospital admissions.
The service provides 24/7 support in a safe, home-like environment through one-to-one support, shared supports, and group activities tailored to individual recovery goals.
Key responsibilities
- Provide individual peer support grounded in your own lived/living experience of mental health and/or AOD challenges.
- Utilise the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) framework to walk alongside individuals in distress.
- Design and facilitate group programs that support peer connection and wellbeing.
- Support people to connect with services and community supports that promote independence, wellbeing and participation in daily life.
- Participate in regular training, peer co-reflection, and professional development.
- Actively contribute to co-design and service improvement, championing the voice of people with lived experience.
- Availability to work across a 24/7 rotating roster including evenings and weekends.
What you’ll bring
- Lived or living experience of mental health and/or AOD challenges, and a desire to use this to support others.
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field.
- Intentional Peer Support (IPS) training (desirable).
- Experience or passion for supporting people with mental health and/or AOD challenges.
- A strong commitment to person-centred, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Ability to provide proof of vaccination against vaccine preventable diseases or willingness to obtain required vaccinations per Queensland Health partnership.
Benefits
- Generous not-for-profit salary packaging - up to $15,899 p.a. to reduce taxable income and cover living expenses.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - support for you and your immediate family.
- Workplace banking and lifestyle benefits.
- Fitness Passport - access to a wide range of fitness facilities for you and your family.
- Professional development - ongoing training and career growth opportunities.
