About the role
We are seeking a Provisional or Registered Psychologist to join our new Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre. Reporting to the Clinical Lead, you will provide high-quality, person-centred psychological services to clients with severe and complex mental health challenges, dual disabilities, and co-occurring needs.
You will deliver flexible therapeutic interventions, comprehensive assessments, evidence-based brief interventions, and care coordination, supporting clients to achieve their recovery goals. You will also provide consultation and capacity-building support to families, carers, and staff, while contributing to service improvement initiatives and multidisciplinary collaboration.
About the service
The Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre, delivered in partnership with Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, provides a welcoming, low-stigma and safe space for people experiencing distress or crisis. Offering clinical and non-clinical support, the centre provides an alternative to hospital emergency departments and helps people access early intervention and ongoing supports, including AOD, housing, and social services.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive assessments, evidence-based therapies, and short-term interventions tailored to client needs
- Provide care coordination, advocacy, and support to clients, families, and carers
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead, multidisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders to support recovery and capacity building
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical supervision, reflective practice, and team development
- Ensure compliance with professional standards, ethical frameworks, and Mind policies and procedures
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology with provisional or full registration with AHPRA.
- Experience working directly with people with mental health and AOD challenges, complex needs, and their families, carers, and supporters.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver evidence-based psychological therapies, assessments, and interventions.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and organisational skills
- Experience in care coordination, clinical consultation, and working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
