About the role

We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Clinical Lead to join the Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will provide clinical leadership across a multidisciplinary team, ensuring safe, person-led, recovery-oriented and evidence-informed care.

You will guide clinical practice, support risk management and quality assurance processes, contribute to service performance outcomes, and build workforce capability through supervision, mentoring and coaching. The role also maintains a small caseload of people presenting with complex mental health and/or AOD needs.

 

About the service

The Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a welcoming, low-stigma alternative to emergency departments for people experiencing distress or crisis. Delivered in partnership with Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, the centre operates 7 days per week and offers clinical, non-clinical, outreach and telehealth support, connecting people to ongoing services including AOD, housing and community supports.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and model recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and person-led practice.
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and coaching to build staff capability and workforce confidence.
  • Maintain a small therapeutic caseload for complex presentations.
  • Support clinical governance, quality improvement, compliance, and risk management.
  • Foster a team culture that values lived experience, inclusion, and professional excellence.
  • Ensure staff operate in line with professional standards, organisational policies, and ethical frameworks.

 

 What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Worker, Occupational Therapy or other health related field as designated by Mind.
  • Current registration with AHPRA, AASW, or relevant professional body
  • Significant experience delivering evidence-based mental health and AOD interventions.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership and supervision capability.
  • Advanced skills in risk assessment, crisis planning and recovery-oriented practice.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and organisational skills.
